Annual Salmon Fishing Competition

Rakaia River Fishing Promotions will be holding the next competition on the 24th February to 26th February 2012. This will be our 29th so it can be seen that this event is well established on the salmon fisherman’s calendar.

This event is renowned for its friendliness and is structured so that entrants can have a good time regardless of whether they catch fish or not. In fact it is possible to win the grand prize regardless of whether you catch a fish or not. As can be seen from the programme there are nightly socials which this year are to be compered by Gary McCormick.

We encourage prospective new entrants to look at the prize structure and programme and to get an entry in, as competitors in the senior event are restricted to 750.

Loads of Great Prizes to be Won!

The authorised purpose of this competition is to assist with the actual, reasonable and necessary costs associated with the improvement of the Rakaia River, including the monitoring of consent applications for water abstraction, maintenance of access points to the river, enhancement of spawning streams, salmon salvage, smolt releases and research.
